Luis Palma has not had the best of times at Celtic this season under Brendan Rodgers.

Spending most of his time on the Celtic bench, Palma has been a bit part player under the Hoops boss after making just seven appearances this season.

Palma has recently opened up on his lack of game time at Celtic and shared how a close family relative passing away has really affected him over the last few months.

And now, as he and 13 other Celtic players take part in international duty this November, the Celtic winger enjoyed the plaudits of the Honduran media after scoring two goals from the bench to sink Mexico in the early hours of this morning.

Speaking after the match, Palma reacted to the win as the Celtic winger was reduced to tears in a post-match Honduras interview.

Luis Palma’s ‘immense joy’ after Celtic winger sinks Mexico

Palma said, “It’s a very emotional moment for me because two weeks ago I lost my grandmother, a very, very important person in my life who left a mark on me and I give her the honour and the glory.

“I’m very happy for the national team. We all did a great job from start to finish, a very important result but there is another game that’s left that is going to be more important than this.

“We worked hard. I dreamed so much for this moment. These last few months have not been how I wanted them to be and this thing of celebrating again, scoring two goals is an immense joy for me.”

What Brendan Rodgers has said about ‘very good technician’ Luis Palma at Celtic

Palma’s lack of first-team action at Celtic would suggest that Brendan Rodgers possibly doesn’t rate the Honduran winger.

Speaking after Celtic beat Sligo Rovers the Hoops boss praised Palma’s mentality and work rate as he set out how he believed the Honduran can be a ‘really good player’ for Celtic.

Rodgers said, “He worked hard, but that’s not an area that there’s any doubt with. You have to do the work, but that was a nice exercise for him. He wanted to stay in the international break to get the work in and obviously playing this game and it’s been a nice reward for him.

“It’s just about not forcing it. I think sometimes the thing with wingers is, when other players are in the team and scoring and creating goals, you feel you really want to come in and force it a little bit. I think sometimes that’s what’s happened with Luis.

“He’s a very good technician, and when he plays for the team and works hard and presses well, then he can be a really good player.”
