‘The truth is’… Luis Palma opens up on his lack of game time at Celtic

Luis Palma’s rapid slide from the Celtic first team is one that has confused many fans since he arrived at the club last summer.

The Honduran winger is highly rated in his homeland and Palma is regarded as one of the best exports Honduras has produced in recent times.

Palma has had some excellent moments in a Celtic jersey. Goals against the likes of Aberdeen and Hibs in the Scottish Premiership were also better by Palma’s two strikes in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid and Feyenoord.

So there is no doubt that the 24-year-old has the talent to make it at Celtic. Now, on international duty with Honduras, Palma has opened up on recent personal loss and how he aims to win his place back in the Celtic team.

Arriving in Honduras to take on Mexico, the assembled press flocked towards Palma and one reporter asked the Celtic winger how he was feeling after suffering a personal loss to his family.

Palma told Deportes TVC, “The truth is that I am very hurt to lose a family member and the people who from the beginning were supporting me for my future.

“But I had the support of my wife, my family, and it is a very complicated issue but I try to move forward and I know that she is up there watching everything.”

Luis Palma ‘striving day by day’ to get back into the Celtic team

Palma has made just one appearance in the Champions League this season and it was from the bench in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Atalanta.

Domestically, the Honduran has made just six appearances and has only been in the starting eleven twice in the wins over Dundee in the Scottish Premiership and the Celtic Park League Cup win over Falkirk.

Undeterred by the difficult start to his season, Palma is determined to get back into the Celtic team and has laid out his aims when the international break is over.

Palma continued, “I’m working, striving day by day, wanting to take the same performance I had before at the club and coming here is a pride, happy to be in the national team and waiting for the things I’ve been proposing to happen so that they come out of everything the best.” 

There is clearly a player there in Palma and as mentioned previously, he has shown what he is capable of.

If Brendan Rodgers can work his magic on the Honduran then maybe, just maybe, there could be a big future at Celtic Park for the former Aris man.
