Mark Clattenburg has delivered his verdict on the Ibrox scenes as he gave 67 Hail Hail some exclusive insight in how the match officials can dela with these types of fan clashes.
The former FIFA referee was astonished at the ‘unpleasant’ footage of Celtic and Rangers fan clashes after the Scottish Cup quarter final boiled over at full time.
Celtic beat Rangers in a 4-2 penalty shoot-out and Clattenburg admits he’s ‘never witnessed’ that kind of trouble during his refereeing days.
How can we ensure that the Glasgow derby can continue having full allocations after the latest incident?
Clattenburg compares ‘unsavoury’ Rangers vs Celtic scenes to Millwall play-off tie
Millwall fans are infamous for their crowd trouble and Clattenburg admits the Ibrox row is extremely similar.
Clattenburg exclusively told 67 Hail Hail, “The scenes after the Rangers v Celtic match was unsavoury to say the least.
“I have never witnessed this type of behaviour for many years. I remember being a 4th official at Millwall v Birmingham in a play off semi final which had some similarities.
“All the referee can do is report the incident to the association and allow the association to investigate the incident using all the video that there is available to make charges.”
Celtic’s class Unique Angle of every Ibrox penalty
Celtic released footage of the penalty shoot-out and the unique angle gives a great perspective of the tense Ibrox finale.
Sinisalo’s reaction to Tavernier’s missed penalty was excellent, the nerves of Trusty were like steel and the emotion of Cvancara was unmatched.
There will likely never be another game quite like it, until April at least!
