The Adam Idah to Celtic saga now seems to be over after Norwich City finally agreed to sell the striker this week.
Celtic have agreed to pay The Canaries £9.5m for the Republic of Ireland striker after Idah’s superb loan spell in the second half of last season.
The fee has caused much debate amongst the pundits with Chris Sutton saying that was a good deal for all parties and Ally McCoist claiming that despite Idah being a good signing for Celtic, he believes the club have overpaid for the 23-year-old.
Next up to give his view on the deal is Mark Wilson as he shares what really surprised him about Celtic’s deal to bring Adam Idah to Paradise.
Rodgers ‘went all out’ for Adam Idah
Whilst Wilson believes that the Celtic board have done well to back Brendan Rodgers in the Idah deal, the former Celtic defender seems to suggest that the club may have overpaid for the Irishman.
Wilson said [Press & Journal print edition page 49], “It’s more than I ever thought it was going to be.
“But, 23 years old, an international striker who has scored goals for Celtic. I think both clubs have done well.
“Norwich have done well for a player who wasn’t in their first-team reckoning and Celtic have a player who has scored goals for them.
“Brendan Rodgers obviously wanted this player back and I’m pretty sure when Brendan agreed to be back at the club, that would have been one of his main rules – that players he wanted and went all out for, he got.”
What matters most about the Adam Idah Celtic deal
Look, the price Celtic are set to pay for Idah is massive. When it finally goes through the Irishman will become Celtic’s most expensive signing ever after Odsonne Edouard.

But for me, the price isn’t what the Celtic fans should be focusing on here. There were some online murmurings between some supporters saying that they wouldn’t blame Rodgers for walking if he doesn’t get the players he wants to strengthen the team.
The Celtic manager had made no secret of the fact that he wanted Idah at Celtic permanently. Rodgers even said publicly that the Celtic board knew how he felt about the striker.
Well, the Celtic board have listened and they have struck a deal with Norwich to get their manager his top target this summer.
The message this sends to Rodgers and the Celtic supporters is huge. Admittedly the deal did take a bit of time to get over the line but the board have delivered for Rodgers which means that they are prepared to back the manager to get the players he believes can take the club forward.
