67 Hail Hail can exclusively reveal that Celtic are considering sticking with Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney for the remainder of the season.

Celtic confirmed that Brendan Rodgers had resigned from his position as manager in a bombshell statement on Monday night.

Rodgers had previously stated that he wouldn’t leave the Hoops, but felt the club needed a new direction after Celtic’s 3-1 loss against Hearts.

While the search for a permanent replacement gets underway, Celtic will be watched over by club legend O’Neill and former player Maloney, who could be here longer than expected.

Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney could stay at Celtic for rest of the season

67 Hail Hail have been told by Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey that Celtic are considering keeping O’Neill and Maloney on as an interim pair until the end of the season.

The 73-year-old and his former player will definitely take charge of the Hoops’ Scottish Premiership fixture against Falkirk on Wednesday night and are more than likely going to be in the dugout for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Rangers.

Bailey added that all options are still being looked at and there is no timeline on when the long-term replacement will be found.

Celtic to see how squad react to O’Neill and Maloney

Despite being open to the idea of keeping the caretaker duo on until the end of the season, 67 Hail Hail also understands that their stance will depend on how the Celtic squad react to their methods.

A number of targets are reportedly being eyed up by the Hoops, with some new candidates emerging into the fray.

For now, it is a case of adjusting quickly and turning all focus towards the next league fixture, which is creeping up very quickly.
