Michael Stewart makes ‘no reason’ Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen claim after latest results

Celtic and Aberdeen continue to shine the light on Scottish football, as Rangers embarrass themselves again.

Normal service resumed for Brendan Rodgers in Glasgow on Wednesday evening, as Celtic beat Dundee 2-0 to maintain top spot in the Scottish Premiership table.

Despite not spending as much as others, Aberdeen are, somehow, keeping up with the pace of the champions and are level on points after ten matches.

This comes after Aberdeen’s 2-1 win over Rangers, who remain in third and are now closer to Ross County in eighth than the top two.

Everyone has seen the rapid start of the Dons this season, this is Celtic-like pace from Jimmy Thelin’s men and they have answered many questions in recent weeks.

From coming from 2-0 down to record a point against Celtic themselves to now continuing their winning run and beating Rangers.

The simple question that continues to be asked is. Can Aberdeen split Celtic and Rangers? And Michael Stewart is pretty clear with his answer.

‘No reason’ why Aberdeen can’t split Celtic and Rangers

Everyone knows that Celtic will continue to march on, it’s just a case of whether or not others can keep up with their pace.

So far, Aberdeen are doing that, but what about splitting the Glasgow clubs?

Michael Stewart feels that Aberdeen have brushed aside those challenging them for third and now he thinks there is ‘no reason’ why finishing in the top two can’t happen, as he told Sportscene.

“What has happened over the course of these ten games so far for Aberdeen is that very early on, they picked off who they would be looking at challenging for third and they got such a huge gap on them, in terms of Hearts and Hibs, who are sitting at the bottom of the table,” said Stewart.

“Now, they are nine points ahead of Rangers. A few weeks ago, I would have said that the challenge was there for them to try to make the case that they could split the two teams in Glasgow.

“I think, quite clearly, now they are in a wonderful position. Nine points ahead. The momentum is firmly with them. Yes, we are just about to enter November and it’s early. But I would say there is no reason why, from what we have seen, that they shouldn’t be looking at this season as a chance to go and split the teams from Glasgow, at least.”

Celtic need a challenge for the title

Even last season, when Rodgers had a few hiccups upon his return to Parkhead, he still won two trophies and you fear for the rest now that the champions have started pretty fast.

Aberdeen are the only ones showing anything, but Celtic can further showcase their might against them by beating them in the League Cup semi-final at the weekend.

The problem for the second-placed side is that this is unknown territory for them, and whilst they have won nine out of ten, you just know that Celtic can do that in their sleep for the next ten games as well.
