A report in South Korean media today indicates that Cho Gue-sung has his heart set on a move to Europe, despite interest from MLS sides in his services.
It’s already known that Celtic are said to have lodged a bid for the South Korean striker after impressive form in his homeland and for his country.
This latest report reiterates that fact but also carries some interesting details from sources indicating that both his club Jeonbuk and Cho prefer a move to Europe.

One close to the matter also told Sports Seoul: “The transfer fee came out at the level that Jeonbuk wanted. It is an amount that exceeds the level that has been reported through foreign media. Jeonbuk initially planned to sell him in the summer transfer market, but the atmosphere changed as multiple clubs offered transfer fees that exceeded expectations. At this rate, a transfer is likely.”
It’s said the fee exceeds £3m, though by what margin is unknown publicly. Celtic want to pay in instalments but value Cho highly and have confidence in his ability to succeed in Scotland after extensive scouting, according to the report.
Another source also reiterated that a transfer is on the way, telling Sports Seoul: “We believe that the transfer of Cho Kyu-seong from Jeonbuk is likely. The club leadership is already engrossed in finding a replacement.”
So when will the player and the club make up their mind on his final destination? The outlet states the upcoming weekend should be definitive after all parties have concluded discussions and the best option is identified.
Clearly, Cho’s move to Celtic is far from guaranteed with other clubs keen to also him land him before the end of January.
With the Bhoys so prominent in this account of negotiations, however, the signs are good we are one of the leading potential buyers.
