Neil Lennon talks up ‘dynamite’ Celtic but names one Hibs danger man who has been ‘revelation’

Neil Lennon was in attendance when Hibs beat Celtic in their most recent outing.

The former Hoops boss was impressed by the Easter Road outfit that day as Hibs won 2-1 despite VAR chalking off a Celtic goal that should have stood.

The same two go head to head in the Scottish Cup this weekend and Lennon knows David Gray’s side will be full of confidence having gone 15 games unbeaten as they sit third in the Scottish Premiership despite a stuttering start to their season.

Lennon, though, has cautioned Hibs against complacency as Celts are in decent form themselves having netted 10 goals in just two matches recently.

And the 53-year-old believes his old side should be too much for their visitors even if the “feelgood factor” will convince Gray and his squad that they can at the very least compete at Celtic Park on Sunday.

“They’re well organised. The fitness levels are excellent. I thought they really forced the issue on Sunday in the second half, and there’s a real belief about them,” Lennon said about Hibs when discussing the coming clash.

“But Celtic are dynamite. The last half hour on Saturday (a 5-2 win over St Mirren) was some of the best football I’ve seen from them this season. I thought they were magnificent going forward.

“Celtic at home are imperious, and it’s going to be a tough ask at any stage of the season. But with the feelgood factor around Hibs at the minute, there has to be a quiet confidence they can compete.”

Lennon knows Hibs will have to be at their best to push Brendan Rodgers’ men in Glasgow.

It was Josh Campbell who scored twice in the most recent battle between the two but it is two other players who have been namechecked by Lennon.

The Northern Irishman feels Martin Boyle always carries a threat for any opponent he squares off against. But it is another attacker Lennon says has been a “revelation”.

“But you’ve got to take your chances. He’s got (Martin) Boyle playing really well at the minute, and that’s really important. He is, for me, the best player when he’s fit and firing.

“I think (Nicky) Cadden’s been a revelation on the left-hand side as well.

“I watched them against Celtic, I was at the game and I thought they were really impressive in their organisation. They played the game perfectly, as good as you could against Celtic.”
