Blink and you would have missed it.
But when Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic for the 2023/24 campaign, towards the back end of that season, a certain Neil Warnock also popped up on the Scottish scene for the first time in his career.
The 76-year-old started his managerial journey in 1980, and in February 2024, he was given the Aberdeen gig until the end of the season, before leaving abruptly in March.
Warnock didn’t face Celtic during his short stay in Scotland, but he still got a feel of what football is like, including the hotbed of Glasgow
Of course, Celtic have dominated proceedings, including winning 14 out of the last 15 Premiership titles, and Warnock had some interesting things to say about Rodgers.

Neil Warnock on Brendan Rodgers’ relationship with the Celtic fans
In his first spell, Rodgers left Celtic for Leicester City in 2019, and it’s a call that didn’t sit well with the fans at all.
Despite so much success with the Irishman, there was still that cloud above his head when he returned, as he went on to secure the double.
Warnock told talkSPORT, ‘when I was there’, he felt that Rodgers was getting ‘stick’ from the fans, as well as the media, but he has now turned all of that around.
“Brendan (Rodgers) has done a fantastic job,” said Warnock. “When I was up there. The stick he was getting from the fans. A few fans and the media.
“He has turned all of that around. He has built probably one of his best sides that he has built. I love watching the forward play. Whether they can keep hold of their players.”
Rodgers’ second spell at Celtic in numbers
What do you expect? It’s littered with trophies, and the only thing missing is the Treble.
That’s how easy things have been for Celtic and Rodgers, that there was disappointment in the air when Aberdeen stopped the Treble last season.
But the numbers speak for themselves.
| Matches in Rodgers’ second spell | W | D | L | Goals | Points | Trophies |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 107 | 75 | 16 | 16 | 288:115 | 241 | 4 |
Now, every Celtic fan is hoping Rodgers signs a new contract because, as of this moment, the 2025/26 season is going to be his final one.
And given that Rodgers has won the title every time, that’s something the supporters don’t want to change.
