Brendan Rodgers is working his magic again in Celtic colours.
It’s great to see the Celtic manager dominating over two spells in Glasgow because he set the bar unbelievably high during his first stint.
That’s four trophies since Rodgers’ return, and let’s be honest, he doesn’t get many things wrong, and the players respond to his calls most of the time.
But if the Celtic Park faithful were to be harsh and critical, then there is one area that needs addressing, especially with the 2025 summer transfer window officially open.

Brendan Rodgers’ troubles at centre-back for Celtic
Just because Celtic have been going trophy crazy, it doesn’t mean you take your foot off the gas, and you can’t even strengthen the strongest of positions.
But with Celtic conceding 21 Premiership goals in 2025, then more action is needed, and Alan Rough thinks it’s an area of the pitch Rodgers hasn’t got right, and he ‘can’t really get his finger on’.
Discussing the situation of Kieran Tierney coming back, as well as Greg Taylor’s future, Rough told PLZ Soccer that the champions of Scotland need to take action in the summer market by bringing in an ‘experienced’ centre-back.
“Kieran Tierney coming back, the fans will absolutely love that,” said Rough. “I still think you need a backup there if Greg Taylor moves.
“I still think centre-half is a big, big position that Brendan (Rodgers) can’t really get his finger on. I don’t think he knows who his best two are.
“I would like to think it would be a really experienced centre-half coming in to strengthen that, because as we have seen throughout the season, big players pick up injuries and you need somebody to step in.”
Who was Celtic’s highest-performing centre-back in 2024/25?
Nawrocki won’t be included in this because he simply didn’t start or play enough matches, just 180 league minutes, as the writing is on the wall for him.
But when you compare Scales, Trusty and Carter-Vickers with one another, the man who was the highest rated by WhoScored in the Premiership was the Irishman.
But it’s the 2024 summer signing who narrowly comes out on top when you compare their Champions League ratings.
- Scales’ WhoScored rating in the Premiership: 7.48
- Carter-Vickers’ WhoScored rating in the Premiership: 7.28
- Trusty’s WhoScored rating in the Premiership: 7.28
- Trusty’s WhoScored rating in the Champions League: 6.71
- Carter-Vickers’ WhoScored rating in the Champions League: 6.70
- Scales’ WhoScored rating in the Champions League: 6.67
