A £3m January window but, Nicolas Kuhn arrived at Celtic with the hope that he was the quality signing that Brendan Rodgers was really looking for.
Despite a goalscoring debut in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen, Kuhn failed to stake a real claim for a starting place in Rodgers Celtic team.
It wasn’t really until the Celtic manager spoke about Kuhn’s health issue that the scale of it was really realised.
Losing weight and strength, it is little wonder the German winger struggled to make a serious impact at the club but now that he’s fully recovered, Kuhn has put in impressive performances against St Johnstone and Motherwell recently.
Kuhn says illness at Celtic was ‘a big deal’
Speaking prior to Celtic’s win at Livingston yesterday, the 24-year-old spoke out about his illness and how it really affected his start at his new club.
Kuhn said [Sky Sports], “I had some problems in the beginning. I talked a lot about it with my teeth and I didn’t have a preseason because we had winter break in Austria.
“But now I’m starting to get better and better and finding my form and I’m happy.
“In the beginning, of course, it was a big deal because normally I’m like 70 kilogrammes, and when I came here, it was 63 or something. So I don’t even want to know what it was before.
“I remember like the first training sessions to do some extra runs with Callum McGregor. And I think he was like the worst partner to do the rounds with because this guy doesn’t stop and doesn’t even drink in the breaks. So I was getting cramps in the beginning.

“But now I don’t have any problems anymore.”
Kuhn now looks like the player who persuaded Rodgers to splash out £3m in January. The Celtic boss will be delighted that his new Bhoy is hitting some good form at this crucial stage of the season.
With the Glasgow Derby coming up on Sunday, the Hoops gaffer will be hoping to see more of the player who ripped St Johnstone apart and performed well at Livingston yesterday to help pick three vital points in the defence of the title.
