Charlie Mulgrew is a self-confessed Celtic fan.
The former Hoops defender has supported the club all of his days and Mulgrew also got to live every Celtic supporter’s dream by playing for the club he loves.
Of course, that dream almost never happened after Celtic let Mulgrew leave the club back in 2006 having progressed through the Academy but never making a single first-team appearance.
Stints at Wolves, Southend United and Aberdeen followed until Mulgrew rejoined Celtic in 2010 by becoming Neil Lennon’s first-ever signing.
And here, the popular Celtic pundit leaves Paul Slane stunned when he admits the real reason he wanted to play for the Hoops.

The surprising reason Charlie Mulgrew wanted to play for Celtic
Mulgrew enjoyed a successful six-year stay at Celtic, winning five league titles and two Scottish Cups.
And the reason he wanted to join the club from a young age has left former Celtic man Slane speechless.
The ex-Celtic defender said on the Mulgrew Pitch to Par podcast, “So, for me, to be a player, there’s actually a video of my mum holding me at my christening and she’s saying to me, ‘You’re going to play for Celtic one day and everything’s going to be all right’.
“So my mindset was growing up, and I’m not just saying it’s because of that, that could be a coincidence or whatever, my mindset was money, mate. My driver was money.
Slane: “No way! How young are we talking here that you’re thinking about money?”
Mulgrew: “I don’t know but I love football and I thought playing for Celtic and playing would give you a life.
“And that’s a lot for me to admit but that was a big driver.”
