Adam Idah missed out on Norwich City’s pre-season friendly away to Northampton on Saturday but Johannes Hoff Thorup has explained it had nothing to do with recent Celtic speculation.

Idah’s absence from the match sparked a few headlines north of the border given the Scottish champions’ interest in signing him permanently.

Celtic are said to be in negotiations with the Canaries on a transfer having had an initial bid for the Republic of Ireland international rejected.

The player is believed to have communicated that he wants to play for the Bhoys next term, having gained so much confidence during his loan spell in Glasgow.

Norwich are set to include Idah this week

Norwich have always stated that he would be reporting back for pre-season training. And there’s an innocent reason for his omission from their weekend trip to the Cobblers.

Thorup has explained that Idah simply hasn’t joined in with group training yet, so it was too soon for him to feature despite 22 other players being used.

He said [Eastern Daily Press]: “He was back in Monday and Tuesday doing his testing and will be back with the group from this week.”

Celtic will likely make another Adam Idah push

Brendan Rodgers made it very clear back in May that he wanted Idah to sign for Celtic after a stellar loan spell in the second half of last season. He put the onus on the board to get a deal done.

Despite rejected advances, the Bhoys will certainly return with a renewed push to conclude business with Norwich – especially since the player has a desire to be here.

The impasse with the English side can’t go on forever. Fans will be hoping for a breakthrough sooner rather than later with plenty of work to do in pre-season to prepare for the competitive challenges ahead.
