New summer signing, Odin Thiago Holm has opened up on one of the reasons he left Norway to come to Glasgow and join Celtic.

Holm was very highly rated in his homeland before he made the switch to Scotland. In fact, he was named in the Next Generation 2020 list of world football’s top 60 talents back in October of that year. [The Guardian]

So you would think that with that kind of potential, he could have had the pick of many teams in any league to go and develop himself. But he chose to come to the SPFL and play at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers. And here he reveals why.

Speaking about the season ahead, Holm said the Champions League was one of the reasons he joined the club and revealed the club he would love to come up against.

Holm said [Daily Record], “It would be crazy to play against Barcelona or Liverpool.

“But it’s possible at a club like Celtic. In the Champions League draw, if I could choose to play any team it would be Barcelona, just for that experience.

“The Champions League was a factor in me coming here. Every young player wants to reach that level so it was a big part of wanting to join Celtic.”

Celtic European status continues to provide a platform

Celtic have had a reputation for two decades now for developing players, getting them exposure in Europe and helping to earn them their next big move.

It’s a business plan and model that has served us well over the years. It has also helped us attract some of the best young talents in Europe when they may well have been tempted to go elsewhere.

Recent players like Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard all earned their big moves because of exposure to European football. As did Virgil van Dijk and Kieran Tierney.

Will Holm be one of those players that go on and get their big move off the back of having success at Celtic? Who knows. The early indications are that we have a very talented player on our hands.

We just need to nourish that and let it grow. If we get it right, the youngster could be huge for Celtic and our bid to continue our success in Scotland.
