Celtic are at the beginning of a significant week that will end on Sunday with the first Glasgow Derby of the season against Rangers on home soil.

Brendan Rodgers will hope his side have some new additions available to feature, with Barcelona left-back Alex Valle close to joining the club on loan.

The Bhoys have also put in formal bids for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels and LAFC attacker Mateusz Bogusz. According to reports, the former has agreed personal terms as the race for late window arrivals intensifies.

Auston Trusty may also enter the fold before then. The reigning Scottish Premiership champions have submitted a £5 million offer for the United States international, so there could be movement on that before Friday’s deadline.

Away from transfer talk, Celtic have made a bright start to life this term, claiming three consecutive league victories without conceding.

On the other hand, Rangers travel to the east of the city with two victories and a draw against Heart of Midlothian on the opening day, offering the Hoops a chance to race five points clear of their rivals with a victory.

With excitement brewing ahead of the clash, the officials and VAR operatives for Sunday’s Glasgow Derby have now been named.

John Beaton to take charge of Celtic vs Rangers

Daniel McFarlane and Jonathan Bell will run either line. Meanwhile, there is no confirmation over who the fourth official will be this weekend.

On VAR duty, Andrew Dallas has been drafted in as the main operative, supported by Graeme Stewart, in case any incidents require a second pair of eyes.

Hopefully, football can be the main talking point this weekend rather than refereeing decisions, but a derby match between Celtic and their rivals rarely passes without incident, so there are bound to be plenty of topics for discussion.

Sky Sports hold TV rights for Sunday’s 12.30 pm kick-off. The build-up to the clash starts at 11.30 am live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football [Sky Sports TV schedule].

Celtic have made a bright start to the campaign and will be desperate to prolong their good form by claiming maximum points before the international break. Hopefully, the Bhoys can deliver in front of a raucous home support.
