Former Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu has broken his silence on the failed deadline day move to Stuttgart.

While he never truly settled at Celtic Park, the South Korean forward has loved life in Belgium with Genk.

His performances captured the attention of the Bundesliga outfit and on deadline day, Stuttgart agreed a £24m deal to sign Oh.

Sadly, a failed medical saw Oh’s move break down and now the 24-year-old has spoken for the first time since the disappointment.

Oh Hyeon-gyu can’t hide disappointment at failed Stuttgart move

Had the forward made the switch from Belgium to Germany, Celtic would’ve received a £4m windfall thanks to a sell-on clause inserted into his contract.

Despite the complication in the medical, Oh played for South Korea in their 2-0 win against the USA.

Reflecting on the deadline day collapse, he said: “Since high school, I’ve never had any problems with my knee and never missed games due to injuries, not even at Celtic or Genk.

“So I was disappointed the transfer didn’t happen because I was ready for it both physically and mentally.

“But as soon as I left Stuttgart and went to the United States to play for my country, I put that behind me.”

Oh to return to Glasgow in Europa League

Several Celtic players also saw transfers break down in the summer window and like Oh, all have moved on.

For the 24-year-old, the focus will now be on the Belgian Pro League and Europa League campaign, which will see him return to Glasgow.

Genk will play Rangers on matchday one at Ibrox.

Having been around Celtic during Glasgow derby encounters, he will be up for it and also hoping to send a message to Stuttgart.
