When Brendan Rodgers was at Celtic, Louie Barry was a name suggested as a possible signing for the Glasgow giants.
At the time, Barry was thriving out on loan, and his parent club, Aston Villa, brought him back during the January transfer window amid a mass of interest in his services.
It was during the same transfer window that Kyogo Furuhashi left Celtic, as the champions of Scotland were looking for versatile attackers to enhance the squad.
The Hoops are still doing that now, but Barry’s expected transfer to Sheffield Wednesday in League One perhaps proves how Celtic were right not to pursue a deal for the player.

Louie Barry is expected to join Sheffield Wednesday for under £3.5m
It has been suggested by The 72 that Barry is expected to leave Villa permanently for less than ‘£3.5 million.’
Previously, that was the price put on the table regarding a move to Hull City. But a permanent deal collapsed, and he secured a loan move instead.
It’s a far cry from the ‘£10 million’ that was being touted about when Celtic’s name was being put on the table for his signature in 2025.
Sheffield Wednesday, amid off-field chaos, were relegated from the Championship last season, and now Barry is expected to join them in England’s third tier in the coming days.

Celtic were right not to push for Barry
Celtic have made a lot of wrong calls in the transfer market of late, and Barry probably would have been another had he moved to Glasgow.
Not because he doesn’t have the quality. He has serious magic in his boots and the ability to score some high-quality goals when he gets going.
But Barry hasn’t been able to remain fit since those Celtic links.
During those 18 months, he has played 22 matches in all competitions for Hull City, Sheffield United, and Stockport County, netting four times and starting 12 of those games.
