Celtic have made it clear they want to sign Aston Villa’s Louie Barry in January.

Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in two wingers and the Celtic manager wants extra attacking options with a striker also high on the list of priorities to compete with Adam Idah and £10million Atlanta-linked Kyogo.

The Hoops are also believed to be interested in Mohamed Bayo of Lille as well as Sondre Ørjasæter of Sarpsborg but Barry is reportedly one man they want to join them this month.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, the Scottish champions have submitted their initial offer to land the versatile attacker most recently on loan with Stockport County.

How much Celtic bid for Aston Villa’s Louie Barry

They claim Celts have lodged an opening bid of £5m with a further £5m in add-ons down the line should certain criteria be met by the player.

They same publication also claims a buy-back clause was inserted in the initial proposal from Celtic.

It comes as the Bhoys are also competing with Lens of Ligue 1 in France who offered a flat fee of £6m with similar add-ons.

The problem is that Villa boss Unai Emery is seemingly reluctant to let Barry leave the club permanently and instead is hoping to tie him down on a new contract and then send him out on another loan deal.

The player has been training with the Villa first-team squad since he returned from his loan in League One where he smashed in 16 goals and provided three assists in just 24 outings.

Villa do not want to sell their player this window which would certainly put a dampener on Celtic’s hopes after they officially approached the Premier League club.

The two sides will meet in the Champions League later this month on January 29 with both looking to qualify for the knockout playoff before squaring off together down south in the final League Phase clash of the campaign.
