Celtic fans have had a lot to cheer about this season.
The team’s form, both in the Premiership, League Cup and Champions League has been pretty consistent throughout.
One of the reasons behind that is Celtic’s high-quality squad and the strength in depth Brendan Rodgers can pick from.
There is competition all over the place, with players like January capture Nicolas Kuhn thriving and going to the next level or summer signings coming in and making an impact.
One of the areas of the pitch that has gone under the radar is at left-back and the introduction of on-loan Barcelona star, Alex Valle.
The 20-year-old has played over 600 minutes in Celtic colours and he has looked pretty strong, but he is playing behind starting left-back, Greg Taylor.
After James Forrest signed a new Celtic deal, the hope was that Taylor would follow suit, but despite the regular game time, it’s not happening and it’s left Paul Slane baffled.
Paul Slane questions why Greg Taylor hasn’t signed a new Celtic contract
The Scotland international’s contract at Celtic expires next summer, so this is a matter of urgency and he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January, if he wishes.
Rodgers has stated that Taylor signing a new deal is a ‘priority’, those comments were made in September, yet nothing has happened yet.
And that has left former Celtic youth star, Slane, puzzled and asking questions because he thinks it’s now a ‘strange’ situation, as he told Open Goal.

“What’s going on with Taylor, by the way,” questioned Slane. “This has been rumbling on for a long time now. Rodgers keeps coming out and saying ‘I want him to sign’ and he isn’t signing it. Strange what’s happening there with that.
“I don’t know where the boy Valle’s went. He started that semi-final against Aberdeen and played really well. There is talk of Barca taking him back because their replacement left-back they have got is dog___.”
The return of Kieran Tierney?
Kieran Tierney’s career at Arsenal started pretty well following his move to the Premier League from Celtic in 2019.
But he has suffered a number of injury problems over the years and is no longer a starter, or even a bench player at the club – he was loaned out last season.
There has been talk of Tierney returning to Celtic and you wonder if that happens, what that would mean for someone like Taylor?!
Unless it’s a matter of time before a new contract is signed, then this Taylor situation has to be down to the player probably thinking of other options because he has it all at Celtic right now, including regular game time.
