There will be a lot of changes at Celtic in the summer, but the most important one will be who is going to be the club’s new manager.
Martin O’Neill has ruled himself out, but one name that continues to do the rounds is Motherwell’s high-flying coach, Jens Berthel Askou.
Paul Slane has stated that he has ‘heard’ that Celtic want Askou as their new manager, as he lauded the work he has done at Fir Park this season.
The Steelmen are currently sitting fourth in the Premiership table, and they are ten points behind Premiership leaders Hearts with a game in hand, as some feel they are also in the title race.

Would you take Jens Berthel Askou in the event that Martin O’Neill leaves Celtic in the summer?

Celtic are pushing for Jens Berthel Askou to be their next manager
Many neutrals feel Motherwell are playing the best football in Scotland this season, and they are showing no signs of slowing down.
But after hearing that Askou is on Celtic’s radar, Slane, who was part of the club’s academy in the noughties, urged the champions of Scotland to ‘go and get him right now’, as he told Open Goal.
This wouldn’t be left-field like Wilfried Nancy, simply because Celtic fans understand and are very aware of what Askou is all about.
Si Ferry: “Do you think he will go to Celtic?”
Paul Slane: “I think Celtic want him, I know that.”
Ferry: “You think Celtic want him, you know that?”
Slane: “I have heard that’s their man, but whether there are other options there for the guy. You don’t know.
“What’s going on at Celtic with the recruitment? And that side of things. Will that put him off? I don’t know.
“But if I were Celtic, I would go and get him right now.”
Askou’s Motherwell record
On top of the pretty football Motherwell are playing, they also have the best defence in the Premiership, and they have picked up some big wins.
Given the budget Askou has to work with, and remember, he has Celtic’s fourth-choice centre-back as his starting centre-back – Stephen Welsh.
Then it’s a very impressive job, and imagine what he could do with a bigger budget.
Either way, as of 25/02/26, this is what Askou’s Motherwell record looks like:
- Games in all comps: 37
- Wins: 21
- Draws: 11
- Losses: 5
- Goals scored: 67
- Goals conceded: 32
- Clean Sheets: 20
- Points Per Match: 2.00
