Paulo Bernardo has been out of action for Celtic since early February.

The £3.5million midfielder was crocked in Celtic’s 5-0 win over Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup and has been sidelined since despite initially hoping it would only be short-term.

For the ambitious star it was a disappointment to miss out on major fixtures including the heartbreaking Bayern Munich defeat as well as the Glasgow derby loss just last week.

Brendan Rodgers kept fans in the loop where the Portuguese player’s injury was concerned and just before the 3-2 Rangers loss the manager told how Bernardo would be another while.

Paulo Bernardo says he’s ‘ready to play’ for Celtic again

Now, though, the 23-year-old has told how he is back on the grass in training with his teammates and that has been a joyful experience following a difficult one in the stands.

“Things have been all good. I can play football again, so I’m really excited about the upcoming weeks,” he said this afternoon.

“The injury was bad, but I recovered very well, and hopefully, I can play from now on. It was bad when I saw the results of the scan, because I thought it was a short-term injury, and it wasn’t. So, it was a little bit bad, but I had the opportunity to recover well and to work on other things that I couldn’t do during the season.

“It was a good time to recover and to do other things, too.”

It was hard for Bernardo to come to terms with being out of action for as long as he was, but now it’s all about attempting to push Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Arne Engels for their spots again.

It may still be too early for Bernardo to feature in the Scottish Premiership against Hearts this weekend, but as he has been doing for the past few months, he will continue to support his pals on the field.

“Yes, I think every player wants to play all the games and these games are special, and we want to be part of them,” he acknowledged.

“But yes, I try to support my teammates from outside and try to give them the support they need. We as a team still have some goals to achieve, and we will try our best to complete them as soon as possible.

“For me personally, I want to have good games before the end of the season and try to do my best every game. Each opportunity that I have, I will try to give it all on the pitch.”
