Wilfried Nancy is struggling to find anyone who still backs him to do well at Celtic, but Peter Grant does have an element of sympathy towards him.

67 Hail Hail’s audience wants Nancy sacked after the Frenchman suffered a sixth defeat in eight games following the 3-1 loss in the Glasgow derby.

Fans turned against the players and the 48-year-old in the stands before Celtic supporters confronted the board at the full-time whistle.

It seems like Nancy’s position is untenable in Glasgow, but former Hoops player and manager Grant knows how it feels and wants to see him turn it around.

Peter Grant feels sorry for Wilfried Nancy

The Celtic hero was one of the pundits on BBC Sportsound alongside Steven Naismith as they dissected the awful afternoon at Parkhead.

Nancy’s future came up in conversation, and he confessed that he would like the under-fire manager to stay, but knows that results must change.

He said: “I’ve been in that situation myself and it’s never nice. The fans don’t let you get away with it.

“At Celtic it’s impossible to lose six games in a season, but in eight, that’s really difficult.

“I hope he survives because I am one of these guys who likes managers to stay in their jobs as long as they can but you can’t afford to be like that at Celtic.”

Wilfried Nancy has underestimated Celtic job

Coming into Celtic is a daunting role for anyone, but it is fair to say that Nancy has severely underestimated the size of this job.

Joining from Columbus Crew in a league where there is no consequences of relegation or as much competitiveness, the Hoops are a different breed.

Winning is everything here and while the Frenchman keeps pleading to be given more time, that’s only angering supporters even more.
