As soon as the Celtic board realise the Wilfried Nancy experiment has failed, the better. Because this is simply not working, especially after what he said after the Motherwell defeat.
This site has tried to remain balanced and fair in its criticism of the Celtic boss because, after all, how quickly can a manager be judged?
Drafted in after an international break as Celtic dithered over Nancy’s appointment, which meant that the Frenchman was thrown into the lions’ den with no time on the training pitch with games against Hearts, St Mirren and Roma looming.
As Celtic supporters know, Nancy presided over the worst start a Hoops boss has ever had in the entire history of the club with defeats in his first four games.
Where does Wilfried Nancy go from here?
It appeared that a corner had been turned after Celtic’s wins against Livingston and Aberdeen, but after the Bhoys’ defeat to Motherwell at Fir Park, that now looks like a false dawn.
As does the appointment of Nancy as 67 Hail Hail scrutinises the Celtic manager’s post-match comments that make his position at the club now look untenable.

Two big red flags from Celtic manager Nancy’s post-match Motherwell comments
At times over his seven game tenure, Nancy’s post-match comments have been difficult to understand as he appears to be watching a different game from what the Celtic supporters are.
Granted, after his two wins, there was evidence that the team were improving, but in defeat, the Celtic boss seems to be so out of touch it’s unreal.
Taking Nancy’s post-match Motherwell comments from the Fir Park defeat, the Celtic gaffer said two things that were immediate red flags.
- 1. “No, it’s not a surprise [the defeat]. I know where we are. I know what we have to improve.”
- 2. “The only disappointment that I have? The two goals. I would’ve preferred to have this kind of goal the other way.”
Why is any Celtic manager saying a defeat to Motherwell is not a surprise? If it’s not a surprise then he must have known how the Fir Park club were going to play.
And if he did, then why did Nancy not set up his team to not just combat Motherwell’s threat, but to beat them? What is more worrying is that the manager clearly thought the team he selected and the gameplan he set out was going to work when, after seven games, the evidence is to the contrary.
As for the ‘only disappointment’ Nancy has from the Motherwell defeat, what game was he watching? Celtic could barely string a five-yard pass together.
Defensively, his team was all over the place, and in attack, there was no invention, no idea of how to break down the Steelmen and, more worryingly, no fight.
This is a Celtic side still chock-full of winners, and right now, Nancy has them playing like amateurs.
Celtic must relieve Wilfried Nancy from his duties
It really is that simple. No doubt Nancy will be in charge for the Celtic Park Glasgow Derby against Rangers, and looking at how this team are playing, who knows what will happen.
Well, many are already predicting a heavy home defeat at the hands of the worst Rangers side there has ever been since 2012, and that is completely unacceptable.
However, there is a silver lining:
What do you think? Is the league title still salvageable? Let us know in the comments.
Martin O’Neill proved that when pressure is applied to Hearts, they crumbled and this group of players also have it in them to beat Rangers.
But not with Nancy leading them. Time must be called on the Frenchman’s tenure at the club and a change must be swiftly made if the Celtic board have any ambition of saving what is actually left of this season.
