Celtic’s pre-season preparations are now well underway after last night’s 6-4 win over Queen’s Park last night.
Brendan Rodgers fielded 22 players in last night’s friendly and it was a mixture of youth and experience that the fans got to see in the ten-goal kickabout.
The main goal for Rodgers is to get some much-needed minutes into the Celtic first team’s legs and to cast his eye over the youngsters who have ambitions to be part of the Hoops squad for next season.
And whilst the youngsters impressed the Celtic boss, it was what the senior players in the side in the win over Queen’s Park that impressed former Hoops hero, Peter Grant.
Celtic ‘positives’ despite shipping four goals vs Queen’s Park
Grant was on commentary duty for Celtic TV last night and as he summed up the match, he said the youngsters will be ‘delighted’ with their contribution to the win and shared why he was impressed with the senior players at The City Stadium.
Grant said [Celtic TV], “All positives in that respect. Of course, there are things that you are going to work on but it’s only a few games into pre-season.
“They are doing a lot of training, obviously legs are tired, young boys are nervous when they’re playing in front of the manager, just simple things.
“And you can’t legislate for that, and they’ll just be delighted.
“And what they’re trying to do is they’re trying to impress the manager enough that they get taken on this trip to America, which would be a dream come true for these boys.
“As I said, the senior player’s attitude was the biggest thing for me, and I think that was excellent.”

Pre-season friendlies are funny games to use to get a gauge of how players have performed. They are important to show the manager what his team have in their locker heading into the new season.
But as we all know, there is a stark difference between these games and when the real action starts in the SPFL.
With Celtic set to embark on their 2024 USA Summer Tour in just under two weeks, Brendan Rodgers and the fans will see what the players are made of against tougher opposition when the likes of Man City and Chelsea roll up this month.
