Celtic are only a couple of weeks away from the January transfer window as they enter the final three-game stretch before the market opens for business.

Making inroads, the Bhoys are back on the trail of Michel-Ange Balikwisha after the Royal Antwerp winger made his long-anticipated return from a serious muscle injury.

Reportedly, Ajax midfielder and Lyon’s Mahamadou Diawara are also on Celtic’s wishlist as the reigning Scottish top-flight champions look to push ahead moving into the second half of the season.

Contextually, Brendan Rodgers’ side find themselves in a brilliant position after the Hoops claimed the Premier Sports Cup against Rangers. Topping off an excellent start to the campaign, they are top of the league standings and competitive on the European scene.

With Champions League progression a priority in the New Year, Peter Grant has pointed out where his old side may be most likely to strengthen in January.

Peter Grant makes Celtic January transfer window prediction

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Grant believes the ‘only changes’ Rodgers will make to his squad in mid-season could come if fringe players such as Luis Palma or Odin Thiago Holm depart Parkhead.

He explained: “There’s so many European competitions with all these teams that’s involved and all their players are involved, so some of them, they’re not going to let them out.

“I think if Celtic keep their boys fit, they’ve got more than enough. The only changes I see is, say Luis Palma is getting talked about moving away. Thiago Holm, these boys, if the edge of it gets moved away, then I see replacements come in that they maybe work with.

“I don’t know what the young boys are like below, if they’re up to that level, so whether they’re up to the level to replace those guys or Celtic have to go out (and buy them). But I agree with Craig, I’m one of these guys that believe the window in the summer is so important and you’re hoping if you don’t get any injuries, that’s what’s going to get you through the season.”

Celtic could also see departures in the January transfer window

While incoming are the main topic of conversation, Grant’s words also correlate to the fact that outgoings will be a reality in the January window.

Earlier today, 67 Hail Hail told you that Stephen Welsh, Luis Palma and Maik Nawrocki could leave Celtic in January in search of regular football.

Anticipation over movement is building as the Bhoys strive to strike while the iron is hot. Unlike last year, most will approach the mid-season market with far more optimism than pessimism.
