Peter Schmeichel calls out Micah Richards over past treatment of Celtic star son, Kasper

Peter Schmeichel was in Croatia’s capital on Tuesday night as he watched Celtic in action against Dinamo Zagreb.

The former Manchester United player was working for CBS Sports’ coverage of the Champions League and also keeping an eye on his son, Kasper Schmeichel.

Celtic recorded a 0-0 draw against Zagreb to keep alive their chances of securing a play-off spot in the Champions League, with two matches remaining.

To the delight of the retired keeper, Celtic have now kept back-to-back clean sheets away from home in Europe, after conceding seven to Borussia Dortmund on matchday two.

Peter was in attendance in Dortmund on that evening and it’s a game, alongside everyone associated with Celtic, he wants to forget pretty quickly.

But there is one thing that has remained on his mind and that’s Micah Richards’ admission about how he treated Kasper during their days at Manchester City.

Peter Schmeichel says he has a ‘bone to pick’ with Micah Richards over Kasper treatment

Peter Schmeichel was interviewing his son live to the CBS studios when he asked ‘where is Micah?’, with the former right-back absent for his punditry duties.

Usually, Richards is in London, alongside presenter Kate Scott, and fellow pundits Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher.

But he was out in Italy covering two Champions League games – Real Madrid’s clash against Atalanta and Manchester City’s showdown with Juventus.

Peter, standing alongside his son, seemingly wanted to talk about why Richards, when he was at Man City, told then-manager Sven-Goran Eriksson to pick Joe Hart over Kasper as the main goalkeeper, but he wasn’t there to answer.

“Where is Micah, by the way?” asked Peter Schmeichel. “We have got a bone to pick with Micah. Where is he? We are finally doing this (Peter interviewing his son live on CBS).”

Kate Scott then interrupted: “He’s in Italy. Unfortunately, he isn’t here to answer back, but you can pick the bone.”

Peter then added: “We are going to do this again. Micah has to be in the studio.” Scott in the background: “Fight, fight, fight.” Jamie Carragher then shouted in the background: “I fancy Kasper. I fancy Kasper.”

Schmeichel ends up replacing Joe Hart at Celtic

It’s a funny old game and a small world, as that is proven by Kasper replacing Hart as Celtic’s number one this season.

The new man in between the sticks has done a fantastic job so far and some feel he is an upgrade on the Treble-winner.

Time will tell if that is true, with WhoScored rating his performances in the Premiership at 7.21, so far and 6.69 in the Champions League.
