Celtic did themselves proud on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

Yes, it was bitterly disappointed that Celtic were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Munich, but there is still the return leg in Munich next week and some hope.

The revamped Champions League format this season has resulted in more teams being involved than ever before and it equates to more games, so there is more chaos.

But what the knockout playoff round has done is that it has allowed more emphasis on certain matches because you don’t have the usual nine games per night.

And, on Wednesday night, as Celtic battled it out against Bayern, American broadcaster CBS Sports gave the champions of Scotland the special treatment and Peter Schmeichel was in Glasgow to witness it all.

Peter Schmeichel tells the American people about ‘special’ Celtic

As Peter Schmeichel shared, for the ‘first time on CBS’, they made Celtic’s showdown with Bayern as their ‘live game’ and it was the main event for the evening.

The legendary goalkeeper was stood alongside rock and roll star Rod Stewart when sharing that message and he proceeded to talk about Celtic as a club.

Schmeichel stated that he ‘keeps telling’ the people of America how ‘special’ the champions of Scotland are and the ‘special atmosphere’ inside Celtic Park.

“We are talking about Celtic,” said Schmeichel. “This is the first time on CBS that we have Celtic as our live game.

“We keep telling people, ‘this is a special club’ and ‘this is a special atmosphere’. You (Rod Stewart) are the most famous fan. You have been here for how many years? What makes Celtic such a special club?”

Rod Stewart responded: “Everything about it is different. The charity work they do and everybody loves each other here. The fans are wonderful. It’s like no other club, it really isn’t and I have always supported Celtic.”

Scotland’s most decorated club – Glasgow Celtic

A date everyone will remember – 17 December 2024 – is the day Celtic further proved why they are Scotland’s greatest-ever club.

Celtic’s League Cup final win over Rangers meant that the Bhoys became the most decorated club in Scotland with 119 trophies.

Added to that, only those in green and white have lifted the Champions League – or European Cup in old money – and that’s why it makes this club like no other on these shores and around the world.
