It’s been quite the day for Celtic supporters as they get to grips with the fact the Champions League dream hangs in the balance.

Celtic’s draw with Kairat Almaty has caused a huge fallout today as the Bhoys fans direct anger towards the Parkhead board.

Brendan Rodgers has vented his Celtic transfer frustrations and those frustrations boiled over into the Parkhead stands last night.

And offering his take on the situation, Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony nails it with his opinion on the Celtic board and delivers a superb message to the Hoops support.

Darragh MacAnthony tells the Celtic board what is their ‘biggest problem’

MacAnthony has been the chairman of Peterborough United since 2006 and knows a fair few things about running a football club and business.

And speaking about Celtic’s result against Kairat, he told the Parkhead board exactly what their ‘biggest problem is’.

MacAnthony told Sky Sports, “The frustration I get from fans, because we brought in a tremendous amount of sales a club our size last year and this year, but we’ve also been one of the biggest spenders the last three windows for a club at our level.

“And you could argue the recruitment wasn’t good enough, and we have to improve all of that. But I always come out and communicate with the fans and tell them we’re doing the best we can, and if we’re having a tough time, we’ve got debts, we’ve got issues. We come out and say it.

“I think the biggest problem for the Celtic board and the Celtic ownership, and they’re wealthy people back there, they don’t come out and talk enough, and they need to do more.

“You can’t just have your manager come out and saying, we need to improve the squad. We need to do this. Okay, well, you’ve got to go and win and beat the Kazakhstan team.”

Darragh MacAnthony tells Celtic fans they are getting ‘a bit too excited’

MacAnthony pretty much nailed what Celtic fans have been thinking about over the whole summer.

And whilst the Irish businessman gets fan frustration, he does send a superb message to the Celtic supporters on how he thinks the second leg will go and how the season will end.

MacAnthony continued, “The other way to look at it is you got players turning you down, and it doesn’t matter what you’re trying to do or offer them, maybe they don’t want to go and until you’re in that main group stage of the Champions League, maybe then you’ll see.

“And that’s where the manager has to go and win, and the board have to come out and say to him, ‘Look, you win it, we’re going to get those three players, because then we’ve got proper Champions League football to offer’.

“So I think people are getting ahead of themselves, a bit too excited. I think it’ll settle down. They’ll win the return leg. You’ll make some signings, and you’ll win a lot of trophies this year.”

Let’s hope the last part of MacAnthony’s prediction comes true because Celtic fans not only love winning trophies, but they absolutely live for Champions League nights at Celtic Park.
