Celtic fans are not just having to deal with the fall-out of the Kairat Almaty draw this morning.

They are also having to deal with the news that Celtic hero Alistair Johnston could be out injured for a significant period of time.

The Celtic defender was stretchered off in the Bhoys’ draw with Kairat Almaty with what looks like a serious hamstring injury.

With Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic transfer frustrations boiling over, the Hoops boss now looks like he will need to get proper cover for Johnston this season.

But, all is not lost, because the ideal replacement is available for £2m and Celtic should take a close look at him.

Sturm Graz’s Max Johnston is available for £2m and Celtic should take a look

Max Johnston is rumoured to be leaving Sturm Graz this summer and he is reportedly available for £2m.

The Scotland international right-back is courting the attention of Derby County and the Derby Telegraph reports that the Austrian champions want just £2m for him.

At just 21, Johnston has 65 first-team appearances for Sturm Graz under his belt and these include Champions League ties against Borussia Dortmund, Sporting CP and Club Brugge.

And, being Scottish, the right full-back will also count towards Celtic’s homegrown quota for the European campaign this season.

How much Celtic would need to pay for Max Johnston’s salary

Being at Sturm Graz, Max Johnston isn’t earning fortunes at the Austrian Bundesliga club.

Salary Sport reports that the defender is currently being paid £7,900 per week by Sturm Graz and this is well within Celtic’s budget.

With the clock ticking in the transfer window and Rodgers now looking for a first-team ready right-back, surely a defender with Champions League experience, who is Scottish, affordable and has a potential future sell-on profit is a player who is right up Celtic’s street?
