There is no doubt that Liam Scales has been the surprise package of the season for Celtic.

In life, when you are handed an opportunity, you have to take it and Liam Scales is now doing that in the most commanding of fashions.

The 25-year-old’s current deal expires in 2025 and Celtic fans will be hoping that he puts pen to paper on a new deal – his performances are certainly deserving of it.

Andy Walker stated that he is ‘sure’ that Liam Scales will be the latest Celtic star to extend his stay at Parkhead under Brendan Rodgers, as he told Go Radio

Whilst Brendan Rodgers might still add to his backline this January or in the summer. There is no doubt who his starters are moving forward.

When everyone is fit and firing. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales are now the regular pairing, with Maik Nawrocki seemingly behind, alongside Stephen Welsh, whilst Gustaf Lagerbielke’s time is clearly up.

A big reason why the Republic of Ireland international has been able to perform at such a strong level is because of his previous loan spell at Aberdeen.

That provided him with the exposure, experience and platform to learn, which he is now displaying in fine style in the colours of Celtic.

Liam Scales’ Celtic contract

“Liam Scales was one of those that once went out on loan to Aberdeen, which helped Aberdeen and helped Liam Scales,” said Walker.

On a new contract for Scales: “I am sure it is on the cards.”

Celtic’s centre-backs

With Carter-Vickers still on the sidelines, Rodgers started Scales alongside Nawrocki for the 5-0 thumping of Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

A fair amount of money was spent on the centre-backs, yet it’s the old face in Carter-Vickers and the previously unfancied Scales showcasing how it’s done.

It’s not a good look for the transfer department because, if the club decides to bring in another centre-back in the summer, then there will be a lot of pressure on that player and for the right call to be made.
