Former Celtic captain, Scott Brown wants to sign Adam Montgomery on loan next season.  Brown, who currently manages Fleetwood Town, is hoping Brendan Rodgers, who is widely expected to be the next Celtic manager, will do him an early season favour. That’s according to the Daily Record.

The report says the 20-year-old has been a long-term target for the Celtic legend who is said to huge admirer of the young defender.

Montgomery spent a season on loan with St Johnstone this year and helped them to retain their SPFL Premiership status. He made 33 appearances for the Perth side before returning to Celtic Park this month.

The Record says that on top of Brown’s interest, there are ‘several’ Scottish Premier League clubs that would be interested in signing him if he became available.

Broony has already had experience of coaching Montgomery. When he was Aberdeen’s assistant, The Dons had him on loan for a brief spell during season 2021/22 where Montgomery made eight appearances. [Transfermarkt]

Before deciding on the 20-year-old, Brown could have to wait till the announcement of Rodgers as the new manager and wait until he evaluates his Celtic team.

All the odds are stacked in Brown’s favour. With Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei ahead of Montgomery in the pecking order, it may well be that Rodgers could agree to allow the youngster to go out on loan to gain more valuable first-team experience.

Montgomery still has a lot of learning to do. On top of that, he still has two years left on his contract so another loan spell would be ideal before the club make a decision on his future when the time comes.
