Report: Another Celtic star rated a ‘major doubt’ for injury return against Motherwell

Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is reportedly a ‘major doubt’ to make his return to action against Motherwell this weekend.

The 24-year-old has been a key player within Ange Postecoglou’s squad over the last 12 months and followed that by completing a permanent move to Parkhead in the summer.

So far this campaign, domestically, the Bhoys have conceded four goals in eight games. Three of those strikes occurred during the two fixtures Carter-Vickers wasn’t involved in.

After another strong start to the new season, the central defender was set to head off on international duty this past week, joining up with the American National Team in Germany.

However, Carter-Vickers was forced to pull out after picking up an injury knock, which ruled him out of the Hoops’ 2-0 loss against St Mirren earlier this month.

Ange Postecoglou’s update on the defender that day sounded promising, with the suggestion that the former Tottenham man shouldn’t be far away from making his return after the international break.

But, according to a report from Sun Sport, Carter-Vickers is a ‘major doubt’ for Celtic’s Scottish Premiership match against Motherwell this weekend.

Of course, Carter-Vickers isn’t the only one who looks set to miss the fixture versus the Fir Park side, as Giorgos Giakoumakis was all but ruled out by his national team boss.

Sead Haksabanovic and Daizen Maeda have also picked up knocks whilst away with their nations. So, we will have to wait to hear from Postecoglou on Friday, during his press conference ahead of the game.

More injury woes for Ange Postecoglou as Celtic prepare for busy fixture schedule

It will have been a slightly disappointing international break for the Celtic manager after seeing several first-team stars miss their nations games through injury.

The 57-year-old would have been hoping that those staying behind, such as Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt, who both pulled out of international duty, would have recovered in time for the Hoops return to action.

But, that doesn’t appear to be the case as we prepare to take on Motherwell at Celtic Park on Saturday, with CCV still being a ‘major doubt’ according to reports.

With a busy fixture schedule on the horizon in October through to November before the World Cup, Postecoglou will be hoping the members of his squad currently out will make a swift return.

As mentioned, Carter-Vickers, in particular, has been a key player for the former Socceroos boss, and with some crucial Champions League match-ups on the horizon, we will all be hoping he is back in training soon.
