Atletico Madrid are reportedly closing in on a move for Udinese right-back Nahuel Molina amidst interest in Celtic’s Josip Juranovic.

The Spanish giants have been on the hunt for a full-back this summer, with a gap appearing in Diego Simone’s squad due to exits over the last six months.

One of the targets high on Atletico’s transfer list was believed to be Celtic’s Josip Juranovic, who was heavily linked to a move to the Metropolitano Stadium.

After arriving at Celtic under Ange Postecoglou just 12 months ago, the 26-year-old went on to become a key contributor in the Hoops double-winning campaign.

Juranovic is also a popular fan’s favourite at the club due to his performances and is thought to be a big character off the pitch.

With a player of Juranovic’s quality, there was always bound to be interest in the Croatian internationalist, and a move to the Spanish capital could have been an intriguing proposition.

Celtic quickly set out their plan of action, though, placing a firm asking price on the defender’s head, with the former Legia Warsaw man still having four years left on his deal at Parkhead.

The player himself has also cooled any interest in a move to Atletico, stating that he is already at a huge club and is enjoying working with Postecoglou and his squad.

Despite being interested in a potential move, it looks as though Simeone’s men have now moved on to other targets.

According to a report from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Madrid side are in the final stages of negotiations with Udinese full-back Nahuel Molina.

The Argentinian is expected to join Atleti in the coming days and will become their second signing of the summer.

This move could put an end to their interest in the Celtic right-back, with the former Champions League finalists struggling to fund moves for further targets in this transfer window.

I am sure this news will come as a huge boost to Ange Postecoglou and those at the club due to the likelihood of Juranovic remaining at the club this season.

Of course, interest may still come from elsewhere in Europe. However, it will take a big offer to prize him away from Celtic Park.
