Brendan Rodgers is on the brink of accepting the position of Celtic manager and it seems the club’s ambitious vision has been part of his decision process.

As we discussed earlier, a report from The Scottish Sun indicates that a fresh round of talks with the former Leicester City boss today was positive. It is said that the club hierarchy are increasingly confident he will say yes to the challenge and succeed Ange Postecoglou.

Rodgers will likely be a very high-earning manager at Celtic if the deal goes through. The paper believes that his wages last time around were as much as £2.2m per year and that he’s been guaranteed a ‘bumper contract’ again with huge bonuses on offer.

Importantly, it’s also reported that he has been promised ‘major transfer resources’ to continue the streak of success that Celtic have been on in recent years.

We already know that the Bhoys are on the verge of reporting record annual revenue and with another year of guaranteed UEFA Champions League cash, the spending power of the football department is very significant.

The recruitment during his first reign was spotty, with ally Lee Congerton in a senior role. With Mark Lawwell now in place, hopefully it’s been made clear what the parameters of the club’s signing policy are. There can be no disconnect between the manager and the board if Celtic want to push on at home and abroad.

It’s unclear at this stage what length of contract he’ll be signed up to if he does get the job. Traditionally the club have operated on a 12-month rolling contract basis for much of the century so far.

Rodgers was initially on that at the start of his first spell but was subsequently signed up to a lucrative multi-year deal.
