As Celtic stepped up their bid to secure Brendan Rodgers as their new manager this week, reports suggested that Leeds United could be set to throw in a last-minute bid to tempt the Irishman to take over at Elland Road.
It was thought that executives from Leeds United could tempt Rodgers with a vision to restore the now-English Championship side to their former glory and take them back into the English Premier League with a promise of major backing in the transfer market. But it seems that those reports are way off.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, whilst Leeds are an admirer of Rodgers and his name has been ‘featured prominently’ regarding taking over at the club.

However, it is claimed that whilst Rodgers has not ‘definitively’ turned down the job, there has been no meeting between the two parties nor has he shown a desire to manage in the English Championship. Leeds also understands that Rodgers’ priority is to manage a top-flight club.
That news will be welcomed by the Celtic board who remain confident that Rodgers will accept a deal to return to the club by the end of this week.

Rodgers has been given a few days to discuss a possible return to Glasgow with his wife and family and it is said that both he and Celtic have agreed a deal in principle.
One way or another, we will have a clearer idea by the end of this week who will be taking over at Celtic. The club are still speaking to prospective candidates should Rodgers decide a return to Scotland is not for him.
But you would have to imagine that after all the effort Celtic have put into speaking to the former Leicester boss and the fact that Rodgers was willing to meet officials at his holiday home, the odds are stacked heavily in favour of the 50-year-old officially agreeing to a second stint at Paradise.
