Greg Taylor is likely to be out of action for Celtic following surgery until the end of November, The Daily Record reports.
Taylor’s shoulder injury has been known for a while, but there has previously been no timescale given for his return by manager Ange Postecoglou, who only said he would be “out for a while”. [Scottish Sun]
The Celtic defender picked up the problem away to AZ Alkmaar, then had it reoccur during the win over Ross County last month.
Taylor had previously communicated directly to Celtic supporters via his Instagram account that he had successfully undergone surgery.
Now rehabilitating, it seems we’re over a month away from him even returning to training.
Knowing Ange Postecoglou’s demands, it could take a further while for him to get up to match fitness and joining in with the high-intensity the manager expects.
In the meantime, Celtic have a number of options. Adam Montgomery has been the go-to choice in the absence of Josip Juranovic, who is suffering from a hamstring problem.
There’s also Liam Scales, though Postecoglou has been careful not to rush him into Celtic action following his move from Ireland, only giving him minutes in a League Cup clash at home to Raith Rovers.
When Juranovic does return, he can also slot in on the left side if need be. We’ve seen Postecoglou go with that already when it’s an option.
Ultimately we shouldn’t miss Taylor’s presence too much, but it’d still be nice to get him up to speed quickly so that Ange has as much choice available as possible in the difficult winter months.
