The Celtic board are really doing their homework now in trying to fill the void left at the club by Ange Postecoglou.

As reports circulate that Brendan Rodgers has already had talks with the club to replace the former Celtic manager, the Daily Record also claims that Francesco Farioli has also held talks with the club.

The report says the 34-year-old met with club officials last week as Celtic executives continued their search for the next manager.

Farioli has managed at Fatih Karagumruck and Antalyaspor in Turkey, but he began his coaching career in Italy at Benevento and Sassuolo under Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, who has a similar football style as former Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou.

We told last week how De Zerbi hired Farioli after he was impressed with a tactical analysis thesis he wrote on the Brighton manager’s style of football when he was the boss of Benevento.

Farioli is now a free agent which should make negotiations with the young Italian manager if Celtic were to proceed with his appointment.

The reports this morning do seem to suggest that the club have now whittled down the list of names that seemed to be growing by the day last week.

With Brendan Rodgers and Farioli clearly in the frame to take over from Ange Postecoglou, Celtic are edging that bit closer to appointing their new man.

Kjetil Knutsen is another candidate that has been heavily linked to the Celtic job. With Ajax reportedly cooling their interest in the Norwegian, I would hope Celtic would be looking to make their move this week should their reported interest materialise into something more concrete.

One thing is for sure, this week is going to be a busy one as Celtic look to reach the conclusion of filling the vacant manager’s post.
