Read MoreReport: Celtic in 'constant exchanges' with Eduvie Ikoba
Celtic have been linked with multiple potential transfers over the last few weeks. With Levi Garcia and Xavier Mbuyamba both being mentioned for a potential move to Paradise, the fact that the speculation has started this early could be an indication of how busy the summer is going to be on the transfer front.
Ange Postecoglou recently addressed the rumours surrounding the club. And whilst the Celtic manager said that any names that have been mentioned are ‘not on his radar’ there is one name that seems like it is not going away.
Eduvie Ikoba was linked to Celtic just a couple of days before Ange addressed the transfer speculation. And now, a report by Fussballeuropa has reignited the rumour as it seems to suggest that the club are in constant contact with the player.
The report says, “There is interest in Ikoba regardless of his stay in the Bundesliga, other German clubs have also enquired – and the striker is also quite sought after in Europe.
“There are also constant exchanges with the Scottish champions Celtic Glasgow and the French first division club FC Toulouse. In addition, some clubs from Serie A and the North American Major League Soccer have thrown their hats into the bidding ring.” [translated by Deep L]
Ikoba has been in decent goalscoring form this season for Hungarian side Zalaegerszeg. The 25-year-old has scored 13 goals in 33 appearances so far. He has also recently won the Hungarian Cup.
But as I have previously mentioned before, this doesn’t have the feel of being an Ange Postecolgou signing. Already at an age where he is unlikely to develop any further, his goalscoring rate prior to this season has been less than impressive.
In my opinion, I genuinely can’t see this one going any further. It does seem as though Celtic’s name is being used to help increase the American striker’s profile to try and leverage a better move to a bigger club.
There is no doubt Ange Postecoglou will have targets in mind this summer, I just think Ikoba is not going to be one of them.
