Reports in South Korea have claimed that Celtic have made a ‘formal offer’ for Gangwon’s winger Yang Hyun Jun as the new Brendan Rodgers era gets underway. [Newstong]
The report says that the K1 League club feel that the offer that is on the table is not enough to tempt Gangwon to part with one of their star players.
The issue for Gangwon is that the club is in relegation trouble. They are in the relegation play-off places as they currently sit 11th out of 12 in K1 League.
The report says that whilst that run of form continues, an official of the club is quoted as saying, “I don’t think it will be easy (to allow Yang to move).” [translated by Deep L]
The 21-year-old is already part of the South Korean national squad. Although he is yet to make a full international debut, he has been capped at u23 level and has made two appearances at that level.
Hyun-jun has made 19 appearances for Gangwon this season scoring just one goal and creating one assist. Overall, he has featured 67 times for the Korean side and scored nine goals and created five over his two-year period at the club. [Transfermarkt]

It is also thought that Hyun-jun is said to have a big future in football as one of the brightest prospects from Korea. [The Sun]
Celtic are clearly intent on continuing with its Asian recruitment strategy. The success we have had in that market over the last two seasons makes the decision of pursuing players from that region a no-brainer.
You would also have to assume that Brendan Rodgers is also fully on board with the strategy now that he is officially the new Celtic manager.
This is it beginning. The transfer season is officially underway for Celtic. With reports of a medical being held for Odin Thiago Holm in London yesterday and the offer being made for Hyun-jun today, the Celtic support can look forward to a summer of intense transfer speculation.
