Robbie Keane bluntly responds to Celtic rumours

Robbie Keane has once again been asked about the Celtic job.

Keane said his focus was on Ferencvaros when quizzed about the Hoops vacancy, but the rumours are refusing to go away.

Earlier this week it was reported that Celtic have met with potential Brendan Rodgers replacements in London, with a view to making an appointment sooner rather than later.

Wilfried Nancy, Kjetil Knutsen and Kieran McKenna appear to be the leading candidates, but things can change rapidly.

Dermot Desmond knows Keane well, which makes the links interesting. However, the Republic of Ireland’s record goalscorer seemed focused on his current job.

Poll: Who would you like to become the new Celtic manager?

Robbie Keane not thinking about Celtic job

In his playing days, the forward was used to being linked with a host of clubs but never let that get in the way of the current task at hand.

The same can be said for his managerial career, and when quizzed about the Celtic manager role once again, he doubled down, by saying he was only thinking about the present and not the future.

He said: “As a player, they wrote that I would sign here or there, but it’s the same – there is nothing you can do about that, I am only and exclusively focused on my work here.”

Robbie Keane would be the wrong appointment for Celtic

There is no denying that Keane has done well in his managerial career, but that doesn’t necessarily make him the right fit for the Hoops.

The majority of the fanbase are clearly against the idea of appointing him. Would the Celtic board really want to risk poking the bear even more?

In a season where the club can afford no more own goals, this would be one of the biggest ones yet and could threaten to derail any hopes of toppling Hearts in the title race, as well as the quest to qualify for the next round of the Europa League.
