Celtic-mad Rod Stewart was sure to defend the quality of the Glasgow derby over the weekend and the manner of the Bhoys’ victory.
Brendan Rodgers’ side secured a deserved 2-1 win over Rangers on Saturday, with Paulo Bernardo and Kyogo Furuhashi the scores.
But when the legendary musician was discussing Celtic’s win on talkSPORT on Tuesday, he was told by Simon Jordan that the game ‘lacked quality’.
Rod Stewart was sure to shut down those claims by stating it had ‘a lot of quality’ and how ‘Celtic played all the football’, whilst Rangers played ‘more of a long ball’, as he told talkSPORT (02/01/24 at 11:20 am).
With Callum McGregor running proceedings in the middle of the park, the Celtic skipper set the tone for a deserved win.
You could argue Rangers only really came to life when they were down to ten men and had nothing to lose.
But, other than that, there weren’t many scares from Philippe Clement’s side, who went into that game 15 unbeaten and then got what they deserved at the full-time whistle.
Celtic’s win over Rangers
“Celtic were the better side,” said Jordan. “There were times when they made Rangers look quite pedestrian. I think Celtic made hard work of it.
“When Rangers went down to ten men, Celtic were architects of their own problems. But they got a result. You could see Brendan Rodgers’ reaction to it because there was some pressure building on him. And Celtic did the job, in the end.
“But I was disappointed. It’s a great spectacle. It’s a great game. It comes in with Rangers not being beaten in 15 games, with Philippe Clement looking like he is the deal. It’s great for the league you have two sides operating at this level. But I thought the game itself lacked a bit of quality.”
Rod Stewart responded: “I disagree with you, Simon. I thought the game had a lot of quality. Celtic played all the football. Rangers were playing more of a long ball – maybe it’s because I had a couple of drinks before kick-off, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Celtic’s win over St Mirren
It’s all good beating Rangers, but sometimes the hardest part is backing that up days later and winning again.
But the Bhoys did just that, and in style, by seeing off 10-man St Mirren with ease on Tuesday.
Within ten minutes, the game was done and dusted because Daizen Maeda and Matt O’Riley had got on the scoresheet.
Greg Taylor, dubbed ‘Robin Van Persie’ by his teammates, also added to the tally, with Celtic heading into the break in strong form.
