‘It’s about’ – Ross Doohan shares what Kieran Tierney told him about Celtic on Scotland duty

There is a lot for Celtic fans to look forward to ahead of the 2025/26 season.

One of the main talking points of the season is going to be Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic and re-signing for his boyhood club on a free transfer from Arsenal.

Tierney left Celtic for Arsenal in 2019, and a few years later, Ross Doohan also departed after several loan spells and joined Aberdeen.

But in recent times, Celtic and Brendan Rodgers love a good comeback story because, on top of Jota’s return in the winter, you can now add Tierney, Doohan, as well as new Player Pathway manager Shaun Maloney, to that list.

Everyone has known about Tierney’s return for a while now; it was just a case of getting that confirmation through.

But it seems as though the all-action left-back was already discussing it all with Doohan on national duty.

What Kieran Tierney told Ross Doohan about Celtic

Doohan made his Scotland debut against Liechtenstein this month following a late phone call from Steve Clarke after he encountered a catalogue of issues with his keepers.

Whilst on duty, Doohan spoke about Celtic with Tierney, including about ‘getting the band back together’, as posted by The Herald.

Celtic’s back-up keeper shared that he has ‘always’ had a good relationship with Tierney, and he is delighted to be working with him again.

“KT was a year older than me growing up in the youth teams, but we obviously played together a lot,” shared Doohan.

“You obviously know the type of player KT is, what he’s like, and the type of person he’s like, so it’s another great addition to the squad. I spoke to him when I went away on Scotland duty, so we were both there together when I got the late call.

“He was there chatting, but I’ve known KT for years now, so I was just looking forward to getting back to it. I think he said to me when I saw him, it was about getting the band back together. He said that to me when I saw him, so it’s obviously great coming back, and then me and him in the same situation, leaving a few years (ago), then later, both coming back.

“We’ve always had a good relationship. We spoke a lot, although in the last few years, maybe not as much. But every time we see each other, we chat away and always had the conversation.”

Anybody else fancy a Celtic comeback?

With the 2025 summer transfer window open, Rodgers will be looking to further enhance a squad that won the double last season.

And with Celtic in need of more flavour in the forward areas, as well as some defensive options, could more comebacks be on the cards?

There are some former Celtic players still playing who could do a job at Parkhead.
