Ross McCormack slams Celtic star who ‘runs around like a three-year-old’ amid Wilfried Nancy pressure

The transfer business Celtic conducted in the summer seems to be getting worse by the game.

Yes, there was a lot of life shown by this Celtic side during Martin O’Neill’s interim spell in charge, but everything has come crashing down again.

Wilfried Nancy has lost all three games in charge, and rather than focus the spotlight on the Celtic manager, Ross McCormack wanted to point it at the players.

Do you agree with this Celtic predicted XI vs Dundee United? Who would you have in?

Celtic predicted starting XI to face Dundee United at Tannadice in the Scottish Premiership.

Ross McCormack calls out underperforming Celtic players, including Benjamin Nygren

Speaking on Open Goal, Paul Slane was hitting back at Chris Sutton for suggesting that the current crop of players aren’t good enough, and it’s a big reason behind Celtic’s decline, not just under Nancy, but the campaign overall.

But McCormack agreed with Sutton and began calling out several underperforming stars, including those who arrived during the infamous 2025 summer transfer window.

Benjamin Nygren took a few verbal pelters, including McCormack stating that he ‘runs around like a three-year-old.’

Sebastian Tounekti, who has now gone on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Tunisia, was another slated, including how he hasn’t done much since his first three matches.

And then you have Celtic’s club-record transfer Arne Engels, who continues to be a talking point for all the wrong reasons.

McCormack: “There’s no way these players changed that much under Martin O’Neill. They were poor in games. Very, very poor. Dundee, they were absolutely shocking. Shocking. They clawed those points back because Hearts had a sticky patch.”

Paul Slane: “But they went on that run. We can’t keep slaughtering these players.”

McCormack: “They aren’t good enough.”

Slane: “Who isn’t good enough?”

McCormack: “Who isn’t good enough?! F___ing how long have you got? Sebastian Tounekti was good for three games when he came, and now he is absolutely hopeless. Nygren is running around like a three-year-old.”

Slane: “But Martin didn’t play Tounekti.”

McCormack: “No, you asked me who isn’t good enough? I am telling you, he isn’t good enough. Engels, £11 million, to take a corner!”

Nygren’s stats for Celtic this season

When Nygren joined Celtic from FC Nordsjælland, he was thrown straight into the XI by Brendan Rodgers, playing in the middle of the park and getting ahead of Engels.

There were several positive performances from the Sweden international, including a few goals.

But for several months now, Nygren has looked out of sorts, drained on the pitch, way too slow, and performing like somebody who has lost all of his powers.
