It’s that time of year again in Glasgow, as Celtic and Rangers look to battle it out again on Scottish football’s biggest stage.
For 13 out of the last 14 seasons, Celtic have won the title, including in the previous campaign when Barry Ferguson was in charge of the Ibrox club.
The former midfielder took interim charge of the Gers after Philippe Clement was sacked by Rangers in February, and watched Brendan Rodgers be victorious again in Scotland.
Fast forward to the present, and there has been a lot of change at Rangers, including Russell Martin coming in as the new manager, as he looks to stop Celtic’s dominance.

Barry Ferguson states who will win the 2025/26 Premiership title – Celtic or Rangers
Celtic won the title by 17 points last season, and that’s added with losing two Glasgow derbies, and napping towards the second half of the season.
But Ferguson told Go Radio that it’s going to be Rangers coming out on top at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Although he did warn the new man in the Rangers dugout that ‘you don’t get much time’, and he has to start winning pretty much straight away.
“I have to go with Rangers,” responded Ferguson. “I have got to.
“At some stage, it has got to change. Russell coming in as the new manager. Got a certain type of way that he wants to play.
“I still think he is going to add another three or four players. There is no doubt in my mind about that. I think one or two of them will certainly be the experienced ones. We keep looking back at the one he brought in, Rothwell, who I think is going to be a brilliant signing. You can tell that he is a proper football player.
“I am hopeful it’s going to be Rangers’ year – up here, you don’t get much time. But Russell understands that. He knows that. It’s clear that you need to start from day one, winning games of football.”
Most Premiership title wins since 2000
As mentioned above, both teams go into the campaign neck and neck on league titles, with 55, so this new season is going to be even more special.
After Rangers’ dominant period towards the back end of the 20th century, including winning nine in a row, Scottish football’s main crown has been dominated by one team, and that’s Celtic.
Whether it’s Martin O’Neill winning the Treble or Ange Postecoglou, it has been pure dominance.
- Celtic’s title wins since 2000 – 19
- Rangers’ title wins since 2000 – 6
