Scott Brown labelled ex-Rangers star as ‘stupid’ for what he continued to do against Celtic

You don’t get characters like Scott Brown in today’s game.

Not only was Brown one of Celtic’s greatest-ever players, but he was also a wind-up merchant of the highest order, and he could get under anybody’s skin.

Brown wasn’t afraid to dish it out on any stage, and against anybody, including in the Glasgow derby against Rangers.

The hard-hitting midfielder, now the manager of Ayr United, was the Celtic skipper during Brendan Rodgers’ first dominant spell in Glasgow.

And he spoke about the times he would reel in his opponents, boil their blood, and then get them sent off, hook, line and sinker.

To nobody’s surprise, one man in Rangers colours stood above them all, and fell for it in a hilarious fashion.

Scott Brown blasts ‘stupid’ Alfredo Morelos for struggling against Celtic

Alfredo Morelos lost more Glasgow derbies (12) than he won (eight), including watching Celtic wipe the floor with Rangers during his time at Ibrox.

But speaking on the Let Me Be Frank Podcast, Brown shared how he liked opposition players giving it back to him during games.

However, Brown explained that Morelos was just plain ‘stupid’ with it all, because he would fall for everything time and time again, including the atmosphere of the match getting to him.

“I liked somebody who gave me something back,” said Brown. “The same with Morelos as well. He would always (bite).

“He fell for it that much that he was stupid, to be fair. Honestly, I would sit (does the fishing line reeling in gesture) at the big man. Thank You. The amount of times I was getting him sent off.

“It’s just stupidity for him. The atmosphere. The game gets to you, and it does. It does get everybody. Brilliant.

“But then some people fall into that. To be fair, I fell into that when I tried to headbutt Kyle Lafferty as well. We all make mistakes. I just couldn’t get up. The big man was too high.”

When Morelos got sent off for Rangers against Celtic

The most famous moment of Morelos falling for Brown’s antics, and getting wound up to the point he costs his team, was in 2019 at Celtic Park.

Brown had clearly been niggling away at the Rangers striker during the opening 30 minutes of the match, before he decided to launch an elbow in the face of the Celtic man when off the ball.

Celtic would go on to win the game, with goals from Odsonne Edouard and that late winner from James Forrest.

And that was Morelos nearly getting more sending-offs (2) against Celtic than he had goals (3) in 23 matches.
