Scott Brown has opened up on his decision to snub a job offer from the Scottish Premiership as he had a feeling that they would be relegated anyway.

Brown was dismissed by Ayr United following a disastrous second half of the season that has seen them fall out of contention for a promotion spot.

Celtic youngsters Kyle Ure, Jude Bonnar and Ben Summers worked with Brown but may have never got the chance to had he decided to take the job that came calling in 2024.

Is there a place at Celtic for Scott Brown?

Scott Brown rejected St Johnstone

Keen to capitalise on his strong start at Ayr, St Johnstone allegedly offered Brown and his assistant, Steven Whittaker, the chance to join, according to various reports.

However, the Celtic legend revealed to The Warm-Up that he wanted to remain loyal to his Ayr and felt like St Johnston would be relegated regardless.

He said: “We had opportunities to go elsewhere and you stay and try to be loyal at the time.

“Maybe we should have jumped ship at that point in time. We could have went to the Premiership. We could have had an opportunity for a few months, but it would have been hard because the team were probably going to come down anyway.

“And then you’re going back into the same league for the sake of two or three months of having that Premier League experience. You would maybe regret it overall, but I thought what we done and where we were sitting there at the time, we had a good opportunity to go and kick on in the play-offs.”

Lo and behold, Brown was right as St Johnstone did get relegated but have recently secured an immediate return to the top flight by winning the Scottish Championship.
