Derek McInnes has swapped dugouts after being humbled by Celtic last season.
After previously turning down Rangers on several occasions, McInnes has now accepted the Rangers gig after spending one season at Hearts.
But Simon Jordan has questioned the man walking into the Ibrox dugout, as he faces the uphill task of trying to dethrone Celtic from the top of Scottish football.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Crystal Palace owner dropped a few reality checks for Rangers’ new boss, including how he isn’t a serial winner and that he ‘bottled it’, as his Hearts side watched Celtic steamroll to the title last season.
Should Celtic fans be delighted Rangers are turning to Derek McInnes?
Or are we underestimating him?
Simon Jordan questions Rangers’ appointment of Derek McInnes as Celtic search for title number 57
Jordan: “He’s not a prolific winner as a manager, is he? What has he won? The Scottish League Cup ten or 12 years ago against Inverness.”
Jim White: “He turned it around at Hearts, to be fair.”
Jordan: “But they bottled it. They gave it back to Celtic. It was Hearts to lose. Their performances, when it came on top, he had a lot of noise, a lot of bold observations, and I appreciated the opportunity to watch Hearts divide the top two.
“But he didn’t, so they are taking someone who bottled it going into a Rangers team that needs to be better than they were. That needs to be able to push forward.
“It’s an interesting appointment. Yes, I can hear all the noise about how he played for Rangers. How anyone who has played for them, and I have seen the scale of the club that would want to manage them. They needed a manager, so if they think he is the best version for themselves.
“Nothing Rangers have done really in the last 12 months under this new ownership should fill anybody with a great deal of confidence, should it?!”

Martin O’Neill is Celtic’s comfort
Even when Celtic were at their worst last season, not only did they manage to win the title, but another domestic double.
Yes, the issues between the Celtic fans and the board are still there. But it’s Martin O’Neill in the dugout, and that’s the massive difference.
Everyone will hear the usual hype from Rangers. They will spend big, like they did last summer, and the noise will get louder and louder.
But when it comes to the crunch moments, such as the post-split fixtures, only one team in Scotland knows and understands how to deal with that pressure.
The simple reality is that Celtic can only harm themselves. They tried their best to do it last season, but O’Neill saved the day.
Hopefully, in the coming weeks and months, if things start to move forward, mainly off the field, it will allow the club to be better shaped for the long term.
