Celtic and Leeds United are sitting proudly at the top of their respective tables this season.

For Brendan Rodgers, it’s yet more dominance in Scotland, as Celtic are 13 points clear of Rangers and on course for a possible domestic Treble.

The Irishman has been here before with Celtic, wiped the floor with Rangers in his first spell and it would be a surprise if history doesn’t repeat itself in the next few months.

In Yorkshire, it’s more joy for Leeds United because they are on course to secure that golden ticket to the Premier League after losing the big-money play-off final to Southampton last season.

On Monday night, Daniel Farke’s men went into their rivals’ backyard and beat second-placed Sheffield United 3-1, with the away end turned into absolute chaos.

Neil Warnock has managed both clubs, mainly a strong history with Sheffield United, so he knows what the rivalry and both teams are all about.

But the experienced English coach proceeded to compare the rivalry in Yorkshire to the one in the hotbed of Glasgow, as Simon Jordan was having none of it.

Neil Warnock compares the Yorkshire derby to the Glasgow derby

There is no doubting that clubs like Leeds United and Sheffield United are huge. Premier League-worthy teams, with huge fanbases and a strong history in English football.

But Simon Jordan wasn’t having Neil Warnock’s comparison of the Yorkshire derby being like the Glasgow derby in Scotland.

The former Crystal Palace owner made it clear that, ‘I don’t think it’s a particularly apt comparison’, as he told talkSPORT.

“Oh, very much so (Leeds have one foot in the Premier League),” said Jordan. “The best teams, in whichever division they are in, can go to the 95th minute and score goals late. And keep on going.

“In this fixture, I was listening to Neil Warnock, obviously having managed both sides. He managed Leeds and Sheffield United. Probably more so Sheffield United in elements of their pomp.

“He talked about the scale of intensity around this game and was trying to compare it, loosely, to the Glasgow derby, which I don’t think is a particularly apt comparison.”

Classic Celtic and Rangers encounter

One thing that will never die down is the intense nature in which Celtic and Rangers battle it out, season after season.

Just go back to December, when Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final on penalties, in one of the most entertaining games in recent times.

It won’t be too long before they meet again and there will be some added spice to the fixture, despite Celtic’s huge lead at the top.

That’s because Barry Ferguson is now Rangers manager – until the end of the campaign – and he has the small task of visiting Celtic Park on March 16.
