It looks like Rangers could be turning to a familiar face to try and stop Celtic from running the show.
The 2024/25 Premiership season concluded over the weekend, with normal service, as Celtic celebrated trophy day, their fourth in a row, and 14th out of the last 15.
Meanwhile, Rangers finished second again, and then parted ways with another manager when Barry Ferguson left his interim role, months after Philippe Clement was sacked.
It has now been suggested that Steven Gerrard could return to Ibrox – the last manager to win a title for Rangers, but also the man who won only one trophy during his time in Scotland.
Celtic have continued to clean house during that period, including Brendan Rodgers returning and being on for another Treble ahead of their Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen on Saturday.

Simon Jordan on Steven Gerrard’s battle with Brendan Rodgers
Rodgers has won the title in all four seasons he has been at Celtic, over two spells, and there are no signs to suggest that will change.
Simon Jordan made it clear on talkSPORT that Rangers can’t ‘bridge the gap in the dugout’ with the Irishman standing in there.
The former Crystal Palace owner also stated that Gerrard just simply isn’t on the level of Rodgers.
“It has star dust attached to it (bringing back Gerrard),” said Jordan.
“That would appeal to the Americans, because it opens up a commercial opportunity for them, because Gerrard is merchandisable, in terms of marketable, and it gives them attention. He is the last Rangers manager to achieve anything in the SPFL.
“I don’t think they can bridge the gap in the dugout. I think they can bridge the gap economically, and they will take some time to build it on the field, but I don’t think he is as good a manager as Brendan Rodgers.
“It doesn’t matter how competitive he makes Rangers, and how many boxes he ticks for the incoming ownership or how it appeals to the Rangers fans. If they don’t win the Scottish Premier League, then everything else is secondary.”
Rodgers’ record at Celtic vs Gerrard’s at Rangers
It’s night and day, and the Celtic Park faithful will more than welcome Gerrard back, just so he can fall flat on his face again.
At the end of the day, you are judged on silverware, and Rodgers has more Trebles than Gerrard has trophies full stop.
Nonetheless, this is how their tenures in Glasgow’s pressure cooker fare.
