‘Sneaky call’ – Celtic board told take call ‘out of Brendan Rodgers’ hands’ and bring back Hoops hero

Until something is officially said by Celtic, then Brendan Rodgers’ future will continue to be a talking point.

What doesn’t help matters is Celtic’s business during the 2025 summer transfer window, which clearly hasn’t been to Rodgers’ liking.

It’s like the Irishman’s first spell all over again, where he is frustrated by the business conducted, but this time, he isn’t going to walk out.

But, as of this moment, the Celtic manager will no longer be in charge by the summer of 2026, and Ross McCormack has a rather interesting road the club can go down.

Celtic board told to bring back Ange Postecoglou when Brendan Rodgers leaves

Ange Postecoglou was sacked by Tottenham this summer, despite winning their first major trophy in nearly 20 years when they won the Europa League.

Speaking on Open Goal, McCormack thinks that Rodgers’ future should be taken out of his hands by the Celtic board, and they should give a ‘sneaky phone call’ to Postecoglou instead.

At the end of the day, Rodgers has said himself that he hasn’t been offered a new deal yet, and it looks like he will leave, so if the inevitable happens, then everyone would be more than happy to see Postecoglou return.

“Do you think they have had that conversation already, ‘are you staying?’” asked McCormack. “I think they have already had it, and he said ’no.’

“It’s strange. There has been nothing let out about them offering him a new contract to stay or anything like that. I think they probably had the conversation and he had said, ‘no.’”

Paul Slane then stated: “He has come out and said that, hasn’t he?! He came out last week and said that he hasn’t been offered a new contract.”

McCormack added: “I can’t see the manager going anywhere before the end of the season. Unless, listen, I have got certain things that I like.

“I think if the board and Brendan have had that conversation, if I were the board, I would pick up a wee sneaky phone call and phone Mr Postecoglou.

“I would make the decision now and take it out of Brendan’s hands. If you had the chance to bring Ange back.”

Rodgers vs Postecoglou stats at Celtic

Both were trophy-laden during their time in Glasgow. Won the Treble. And then went on to take Premier League jobs.

There is a section of Celtic supporters who feel that Postecoglou’s reign, from a purely entertainment value, was better than Rodgers.

You could certainly argue that when you compare it to Rodgers’ second spell in charge, but nothing might ever top what he won the first time around.
